EASY CHOCOLATE CROISSANT RECIPE

Some days you wake up and you just need a croissant. Not just any croissant, a CHOCOLATE croissant! That was me this week. Things have been a little rough lately. The entire family has been hit with round 2 of the flu and it has completely wiped us all out. Between all of the medicine (not doing any good in case you were wondering!) and the lack of sleep from being up with two sick kids at night, I’ve been in a fog all week. Being sick just makes me want to curl up under a blanket, binge some bad reality television and eat comfort food. Since I’m a mom and I have to be all responsible and stuff I can’t hibernate through the flu but at least I can eat what I want and yesterday morning I wanted chocolate croissants.

Now, don’t get all excited and think that I hauled my butt downstairs in the morning and made my own croissant dough. To be honest I wouldn’t do that even if I was feeling 100%. I found this awesome croissant dough, Wewalka Large Croissant Rolls (not an advertisement I just really loved the product!) at my local grocery store and it makes the best homemade croissants. It isn’t the kind of dough that comes in a can. It is sheets of croissant dough and all you have to do is open it up and cut it into triangles. It’s easy because they already have dotted lines for you to follow. I like to fill mine with dark chocolate because, well, dark chocolate. But if you’re more of a milk chocolate, or even a white chocolate kind of person you do you. Break the chocolate up, place it across the wide end of the croissant dough and then roll it up. I brushed the rolls with an egg wash so they would get golden brown, placed them on a parchment paper lined baking sheet and baked them in a 400°F oven for 15 minutes.

Ingredients

  • 2 Croissant Dough , sheets, thawed
  • 16 ounces Chocolate (I used bars of chocolate)
  • 1 Egg
  • 1 tablespoon Water

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 400°F.
  2. Open up the thawed croissant dough and cut into triangles along dotted lines.
  3. Cut chocolate bar into 12 strips (about 1 oz each) and place a strip of chocolate at the wide end of each triangle.
  4. Roll the dough up from the wide end of the triangle to the pointed end.
  5. Repeat this for each piece of dough.
  6. In a small bowl beat together egg and water.
  7. Brush a little of the egg wash over each croissant and place them on a lined baking sheet.
  8. Bake for 15 minutes.
  9. Remove from oven and let cool to room temp before drizzling with the remaining 4 oz of melted chocolate.
  10. Enjoy!
