Peaches and Cream Oatmeal Smoothie

Did you eat Quaker Instant Oatmeal as a kid? You know, the ones that come in the little brown paper envelope that you add boiling water to? There was nothing I liked better as a kid than the Quaker Peaches and Cream Instant Oatmeal packets.

As an adult, I know that those little packets aren’t the healthiest way to start my day. Oatmeal makes a great starter, but those are loaded in added sugars and other processed chemicals. The second ingredient, following oats, is sugar, and one little packet has 12 grams of sugar — that’s 3 teaspoons in that little bitty thing.

This breakfast smoothie takes inspiration from the sweetness of this classic childhood breakfast in a healthier, clean eating recipe. Added sugar is kept to a minimum by using Icelandic skyr, a type of high-protein, low-sugar dairy product very similar to yogurt that happens to be absolutely delicious. Both Siggi’s and Icelandic Provisions are brands widely available in the yogurt section at most grocery stores.

Ingredients

  • 1 banana, frozen (medium)
  • 1 peach, chopped
  • 1 5.3-oz container Icelandic skyr or Iceland-style yogurt, vanilla flavor
  • 1/2 cup quick oats
  • 2 Tbsp ground flax seeds
  • 1 cup unsweetened vanilla almond milk
  • 1/4 tsp pure vanilla extract

Instructions

  1. Add all ingredients to blender or food processor.
  2. Blend on high speed until desired consistency is reached.
