Minty Non-Alcoholic Mojito

Some days, you may find yourself in the mood for a cocktail, but not for the alcohol content. If you’ve completed a major workout, are tired or coming down with something, or need to work, drive, or take care of the kids, an alcoholic beverage just won’t do. But a refreshing mix of flavors in a tall, cool glass, without the booze, sugar, and calories of alcohol, is a great way to hydrate, refresh, and tickle your taste buds.

Everyone loves a nicely made mojito. The mojito is a traditional Cuban cocktail, made with white rum, sugar, lime, carbonated water, and mint. The drink is often muddled, allowing the flavors to mix beautifully. On a hot summer day, we think you’ll enjoy this non-alcoholic mojito that combines all of the flavors of the original without the spirits!

First, a bit of mixology 101 for you. Add you mint to the glass, and muddle it. Now, you can go out and buy yourself a muddler to do this, but you can just as easily use the back end of a wooden utensil to lightly grind and mix the mint leaves, releasing their oils and their natural flavor. Add your lime juice and a natural sweetener, and fill your glass with soda water. This light, low-calorie drink is a great way to cool off on a hot day, no alcohol required.

Ingredients

  • 4 fresh mint leaves
  • 2 tablespoons fresh lime juice
  • 1 tablespoon natural sweetener of your choice (ie: agave, honey, etc.)
  • Ice
  • 6 oz. soda water

Directions

  1. In a tall glass, muddle the mint lightly, then pour the lime juice and the sweetener.
  2. Add the ice, then pour the soda water.
  3. Mix, then serve immediately.
