Low Carb Fried Cheese Sticks

Who else loves (used to love) mozzarella sticks? They were always a favorite appetizer or snack of our family. Obviously, we don't eat them anymore because they're breaded and fried in unhealthy oils (usually canola/vegetable oil).

BUT...there is a low carb alternative that is BETTER than regular mozzarella sticks!

Behold, BREAD CHEESE! If I could use sounds on my posts, you'd hear angels singing right now!

Bread cheese is a dense cheese that is specifically for frying. It gets crispy and crunchy on the outside and stays gooey inside. It's buttery, nutty, and delicious! You can dip it in low carb marinara sauce and it seriously tastes exactly like a traditional cheese stick without the processed crap and carbs!

I've used a brand called Carr Valley Bread Cheese because that it what is sold locally where I live. You can also buy halloumi (when in season) or queso fresco (a Hispanic frying cheese).

INGREDIENTS:

  • 4-8oz bread cheese
  • extra virgin olive oil
  • 1T butter
  • low carb marinara sauce for dipping

DIRECTIONS:

  1. Heat frying pan over MED-HIGH heat. Add thin layer of
  2. EVOO. When oil starts sizzling (should be very quickly), add
  3. butter.
  4. Cut cheese into equal size sticks. Gently place in frying
  5. pan. Fry each side 60-90 seconds, or until desired crispness.
