Cinnamon Sugar French Toast Sticks

These Cinnamon Sugar French Toast Sticks are my absolute favorite breakfast treat. They taste more like dessert than breakfast.  Thick slices of Texas toast get dipped in an egg mixture, then are pan fried until crisp and caramelized on the outside. The inside stays soft and fluffy and melts in your mouth.  After cooking they are immediately tossed in cinnamon and sugar while they are still hot.

I love regular French toast but it’s even better portable. Easy to dip and dunk into your favorite maple syrup.

This french toast starts off with day old bread. I like to leave the bread out on the counter uncovered overnight. This helps the bread soak up more of the egg mixture. Also if you do not allow the bread to harden it tends to tear when you cut it. A quick fix would be to pop the bread in the toaster for a couple of seconds to crisp up.

These french toast sticks are super easy and come together in minutes. They are sweet enough that you don’t need any maple syrup. Then again, yes you DO need it! It’s so much fun to dunk and dip these french toast sticks.

They would be a wonderful Valentine’s Day breakfast!
Skip the store bought frozen french toast sticks and give the homemade version a try. They are so much better!

INGREDIENTS

• 4 slices Texas toast, day old, sliced into strips (I got 4 strips from each piece of toast)
• 2 eggs
• ½ cup milk
• ¼ teaspoon vanilla extract
• ¼ teaspoon cinnamon
• pinch of nutmeg
• 1 tablespoon brown sugar
• 2 tablespoons granulated sugar
• ½ teaspoon cinnamon

INSTRUCTIONS

1. Add eggs, milk, vanilla, cinnamon and nutmeg to a medium bowl. Whisk to combine. Set aside.
2. In another medium bowl combine brown sugar, granulated sugar and cinnamon. Stir to combine. Set aside.
3. Heat skillet or griddle and spray with nonstick spray or coat with butter.
