Magical Chocolate Chip Cookie S’mores Bars
an we just go ahead and call s’mores the best summer treat? I know, I know there are so many other delicious summery treats to enjoy. Ice cream, peach pie and popsicles just to name a few, but to me s’mores just scream summer. Just thinking the word brings me back to camping trips with my family as a kid and roasting marshmallows over a campfire.
I’ve always been that person who enjoys my marshmallows perfectly golden. It takes patience, but the end result of that golden roasted marshmallow is absolutely worth it. Some people just like to scorch theirs, and eat it burnt which personally I just don’t get. But hey, whatever floats your boat! How do you like your marshmallows?
There is one story about burnt marshmallows that sticks out to me from when I was a kid… I was camping with my family in Bridal Falls, B.C. and I met another little girl and we became friends. I went back with her to her family’s campground and her mom gave us marshmallows to roast, and for some reason this other little girl asked me to do hers for her. She told me she liked hers burnt, so naturally I then stuck hers right into the flames. I let it catch on fire and then pulled it out and let it burn for a few moments…
Well, her mother happened to catch sight of what I was doing and immediately began screaming at me for burning the marshmallow! All I could say was, “but that’s how she wanted it!” and then quickly book it out of there back to my own family’s campsite. I’m not sure why this memory really has stuck in my brain, but I sure can look back and laugh at it now! Who knows, maybe that little girl will someday, somehow come across this blog post and remember it too…
