Paula Deen’s Apple Pie

Actually, it’s a little bit longer than that. We close on the house next Tuesday, but we probably won’t move until the weekend after Thanksgiving. But still, I figure I better be packed by the time we close anyway since I know the week will be filled with fence installation, painting, and Thanksgiving family festivities!
I know for sure we’ll have chocolate chocolate chip pecan pie, pecan pie, and probably a chocolate cream pie. My family doesn’t really do the fruity pie thing. I didn’t either, until I got married. And fruit pie is like my husband’s version of Thanksgiving heaven, so I had to adjust…

In the 10 years we’ve been married, I’ve slowly progressed from all-out fighting him on pie (“How can you want pie for your birthday? No, surely you meant you actually wanted this chocolate cake…”) to begrudgingly bringing along purchased frozen pies for him to eat at holiday get-togethers, to cautiously topping sweet little tarts with 2 or 3 berries… until I finally reached and embraced the mother of all fruit pies.
This golden brown all-the-way-from-scratch beauty of an apple pie. Lattice top, caramel drizzle and all. And guess what? I LOVE IT. Maybe even as much as my Triple Decker Brownie Pie 😱.
